I love Groundhogs Day. Let me make you a list of reasons why it's is superior to all other holidays in my mind:
- No one expects anything of me. I can continue on my merry way as if nothing is happening and people won't complain because I wasn't into the spirit of the holiday enough.
- I won't disappoint anyone. This goes along with people having no expectations of me for this holiday. No one looks to see if I get scared of my shadow. It all depends on the little groundhog.
- I don't have to worry about buying gifts. This is one of the most real stresses of other holidays. Luckily, I don't have to worry about it on my favorite holiday.
- I don't have to worry about receiving gifts. There are a lot of holidays where one receives gifts and I usually don't feel like I deserve them, so Groundhogs day takes away that unnecessary feeling of undeserving.
- I don't have to make food. Let's just say that if I made a quesadilla in the microwave, no one would think anything of it on this wonderful holiday.
- I don't have to have candy on hand for children who knock on my door. Not only do I not have to have candy, but I also don't have the anxiety that hits my gut when someone knocks on my door.
- Groundhogs are cute. Cuddly, furry, fuzz ball. Enough said.
- It's treated like a regular day.
-It's a holiday rooted in superstition. Suddenly, at least for a day, people aren't afraid to think that a Groundhog and it's shadow are a perfectly good basis for determining weather. Now if only they would knock on wood.
- There is only one holiday special for Groundhog Day. You don't have to argue what movie you should watch, if you even watch a movie, because there is only one move for Groundhog Day.
- It's my half birthday!
It's a great day to just be normal and not worry about all the inadequacies of the day that you get during other holidays.
